Urban Forest
Meetings will resume in January 2009.

This Committee works to establish, maintain and protect the shade tree canopy on every street in the Squirrel Hill residential and commercial districts, thereby enhancing the quality of life in Squirrel Hill.

The Urban Forest Committee welcomes all concerned citizens to participate in meetings and activities. We meet monthly at The Children's Institute in Squirrel Hill.

Committee Objectives:

  • Develop a Squirrel Hill master plan designating priority streets for replanting
  • Work with City and the private sector to find resources to implement the plan
  • Participate in tree-related Council meetings to express the tree needs of Squirrel Hill
  • Educate residents as to the benefits of trees
  • Train residents in the care of street trees
  • Advocate for establishing neighborhood committees to promote street tree planning city-wide
